phylogenesis and ontogenesis

These are words that are bandied about quite a bit in my reading of activity theory. Here in De Lisi's chapter I have
In discussing child development, Vygotsky made reference to natural-psychological development and cultural-psychological development. The former is linked to phylogenesis and early childhood the latter to ontogenesis from early childhood throught adulthood. (p18)
Phylogenesis is about the 'origin of species' and early childhood. LSV natural-psychological development
Ontogenesis is about the origin and development of an organism. LSV cultural-psychological development
I'd better keep reading in case it gets any clearer that way %-/
