Pads was very smiley when I left him - with his 'midnight feast' of Terry's chocolate orange bits, blueberry muffin, jaffa cakes and chili crisps. Overheard another patient say he'd lost being able to taste things and even developed a liking for curry - P & I exchanged looks of incredulity - 'how can anyone not like curry?!'
He'd actually been quite spooked earlier at the point of getting the venflon/canula inserted - withdrawing his hand somewhat... fair enough I say. Anyway, this 'port' is going to be sited under his right arm and they'll tunnel up to his jugular and then down the way a bit - so he ends up with two wounds, one to his side and the other near the base of his neck. This will save a lot of needles etc., but, of course, carries its own risks (infection, slow healing, blockage).
Once it has been fitted, he'll have to stay on the ward for 8 hours to make sure he's ok before they'll let him out so it all depends on the vagaries of the 'emergency list' as to whether he and mum will get home tomorrow.
Chemo and Radio are then due to start this week.
