out of sorts

Not coming home tonight then. P couldnt get to sleep until very late last night so perhaps that didnt help him when it came to recovery today which took an age. He seems to have a very sore throat tonight too - from the tube down his throat no doubt. I got a sense that he was a bit fed up - I wonder if he's feeling like he's had enough of this... but actually the 'party' has hardly started of course. We spent some time with one of the nurses talking more about the portacath, which is smaller than I had imagined. It has a thick rubber membrane into which a needle may be inserted for as long it needs to stay there. In some cases that might be a couple of days (e.g. for blood transfusions if he goes neutropenic ). As bad as it seems now, this portacath is going to save him looking like a pin-cushion in the next couple of weeks and months. Someone else on Sky ward said that they average just 2 medulloblastomas a year.
