Returning a bit

With a little bit of 'its not what you know its who you know', we are grateful to one of our friends who was able to help get a bed to us next Monday, which is the very earliest we could have expected. She's also bringing something we can put on top of the current mattress in the mean time which will help his skin to stay intact.
Pads has emerged from the morphine-induced coma now so he is a bit more active, albeit mostly in bed. This happened shortly after the syringe was changed and it was nice that Moli was able to read (Spurgeon's ChequeBook) and pray with him after she'd come home from school. Now he's getting into another audiobook (The Tin Princess), one he's been waiting for to become available on Audible for ages.

Inert

We had a reasonable night although we were conscious of Pads morphine-induced rasping sound with each breath. He's really knocked out with this syringe driver, and asking for breakthrough pain relief this morning - so he has hardly shifted in his bed all night. Being this inert makes it urgent that we improve his mattress - his skin is at risk of breaking down. We probably could have had the bed a week ago but a 'comedy of [bureaucratic] errors' is playing out somewhere in the bowels of the NHS. We will probably go ahead and move him to the back bedroom anyway because it will allow more space around the bed to access him. We may even be able to get a air-filled mattress topper from the team at the hospital.
