open and closed worlds

Recently I have been railing against investing in building multimedia extraveganzas for reasons of:
1. cost
2. complexity

But reading this book made me think - hang on a minute, these so-called 'authentic worlds', these narrative learning environments, are actually over complex to create and under complex to use.

"... collaboration combined with open technology tools has more potential to promote explorative learning and higher order thinking." (p129)

Incidentally I have no confidence that I'm going to finish this review by the 15th!!! but I'll have a go.
